Yes. There are quite a few programs which can convert home-made WMA's to
MP3's, such as dbPowerAmp and foobar2000. But store-bought WMA's can
only be recorded using software like Total Recorder.
If you're going to continue buying WMA's online, then trade in your
I-Pod for another MP3 player such as something from Creative Labs' "Zen"
series.
Or, if you want to keep your I-Pod, then get used to buying your music
from I-Tunes.
