MP3's are typically made by copying the music from CD's to computer.
Like CD's, MP3's are Stereo. You only need 2 speakers to get the whole
soundstage.
As far as your surround setup question goes...
Depending on how you're set up and what program you play your MP3's in,
either some speakers will remain silent, or they will be playing exactly
the same sound as the other speakers. i.e. Left-Rear will sound exactly
the same as Left-Front.
