Yes, you can rip songs from a CD to an MP3 player. Try a program called
"CDex" for this.
The difference between MP3 players and iPods is just the brand name.
It's like how Sony calls their players "Walkman".
As to suggestions... iRiver, Creative Labs, Samsung and Apple all have
good MP3 players. Which one you should buy depends on what you want to
do with it. If you only want to put ordinary MP3's on it (not iTunes
Music Store purchases or Napster To Go rentals or anything like that)
then any of those players is good.
