And yet, if you follow a link to one of the pages in the site, they still
work, and still allow you to buy things (or so it seems. You can add things
to the basket, and probably checkout)

That's very naughty if they are still allowing people to proceed with
purchases.
After all, many people will follow a link from an external site (like
pricerunner) or a recommendation in a forum or something, direct to a
particilar product, and wont see the front page.
