Whilst I have full sympathy for your view, but occasionally the police do
themselves no favours by their actions.
My wife was recently followed all the way home from a supermarket shopping
trip by two police officers in a patrol car.
This was several miles.
Once home they proceeded to inform her that one of the letters on her number
plate was incorrectly positioned.
They took no action, but told her to get it changed.
Fair enough, she has a personale number plate, and one letter is shifted
slightly left to make her name.
I reckon the total effort including following her home was 1 man hour.
However, when we were burgled, the police told us they didn't have the
manpower to come and investigate every individual burgalry, and the
likelihood was they would never apprehend the criminals anyway. And as we
were insured, what was the problem really. I really had to work hard to get
him to record the crime so I could get a number for the insurance claim.
I think that is the public relations problem the police have with many folk.
The balance appears wrong. Plenty of time for traffic offences, little time
for crime.
