Have you actually got dvd player software installed on your works laptop?
IIRC Micro$oft wouldn't pay the royalties to whoever "owns" the DVD format,
so media player can't play them. Until, that is, you have installed a proper
DVD player "WinDVD, Power DVD, Nero Showtime, etc". Then the correct codecs
will be available to media player.
Of course I may be wrong, but hey, this is usenet.
