I didn't think that was a rumour, it was widely reported as fact in the
press, that ebay has bought skype...
At the moment, skype is trying to build a monopoly, it seems to have a
lot
of customers, but its non standard, and there are small plug in devices
which go into your router and provide a real phone line when you use a
standard provider... Skype needs a PC running with a usb connection and
is effectively a "paid-entrance" for standards based voice over ip
services
(to phone someone on skype, you have to pay to connect to their
network).
Skype seem to be the only service people seem to know about though...
