Dubbing of Japanese films

Excuse me while I have a little rant.

Why can't I watch an original Japanese animation in the orginal
language with a direct English translation of the Japanese for
subtitles? Is that too much to ask?

I've recently been watching several of the Studio Ghibli productions
such as 'Kiki's Delivery Service', 'Princess Mononoke', 'Castle In
The Sky', and perhaps their best known, 'Spirited Away'. All of these
discs seem to want to ram the crappy English dub down your throat.
The Jap original will be reduced to DD2.0 (stereo), while the
inferior English dub is in full digital 5.1 surround sound. And
worse, on some of them you don't even get a proper English set of
subtitles, you get English for the hard of hearing which is riddled
with [horn blares] or [birds sing]. But even worse still, you get
subtitles of the English soundtrack, not the Jap original. So where
Miyazaki was content to let the visuals speak for themselves, or let
the viewer work out the plot, with the English subs we get inane
sentences chucked in when no one's actually speaking, of characters
explaining the plot to each other. Arrrgggggg!

The makers of these discs seem to have no concept that they're
destroying the charm of the originals with their crass English-at-
all-costs approach.

Bastards!

I feel better for that, thank you.

Regards

Mark
