One of the best programs to share files is Filetopia... and a Google search
will bring you to the download site. When setting up, it is best to select
a "main interest" other than "general".
The main feature in this program was actually added as an after-thought,
when they designed it... the chat. In each room, you can chat and ask for
things, or help... and the OPs can maintain order, and boot anyone passing
viruses or content incompatible with the room's theme. You select several
rooms appropriate to what you are trying to download.. the search engine
works a lot better if just your joined rooms are selected, rather than a
global search.
Most rooms require that you, too, share some files.
I have never been alerted to a virus on this program.
As an alternative.... I use Shareaza. No chat... but I can often find less
common application files there.
Both of these programs limit access to you files to those you have
selected... I tried Bearshare once, and my whole computer was opened up...
even the files I specifically selected as being protected.
