It was a shitty decision and one of the reasons I'm unsure whether I'll
like Serenity when I finally get round to seeing it. In Whedon's shows
the deaths only worked 60% of the time and had begun to get a little too
predictable. It's like he spends time creating funny, engaging
characters, then gets paranoid about everything being too "safe".

There's also the problem of how he often chooses characters in a
relationship to kill off - always following some variation of the soapy
"break-up, make-up, DIE" formula. You can actually see the beginnings of
it in the last few episodes of Firefly - Zoe and Wash were arguing *a
lot*.

Anyway - haven't seen it yet, so I'll try not pre-judge (much)!
