i have the sacd 5.1 mix, it's just that for years i'd been wanting the
original quad mixes. i have the actual quad dsotm lp but couldn't listen to
it, but now thanks to bobby internet i've managed to find both dsotm and
wish you were here on dts cd and its great to hear the alternate mix
surround my living room. hopefully i'll be ablt to get atom heart mother
quad to complete the quad mixes
as floyd released the mono mix of piper, there is perhaps the small chance
one day they might release the quad mixes on dvd audio. it would be nice as
temsonic says to be able to compare the 3 different mixes in perfect
quality. the new 5.1 mix is nice, but theres something different with a mix
made at the time and era of the album being made (although without the bands
permission), and a mix made retrospectively, 30 years later with a long time
to put together and a lot of prior listening to work out what to do with the
mix (technically it could be far better, but that doesn't necessarily mean a
better peice of music)
my plan now after synching dsotm with the wizard of oz and echoes with the
jupiter end sequence of 2001, is to take the dsotm videos from the pulse
dvd, and use software to synch the 3 mixes of dsotm on a dvd with the
appropriate videos appearing at the right time, perhaps using the "sound
bubbles" images from the flaming lips dvda or some winamp plugins to fill
out the rest of the visuals, rather than use live footage, and i can swap
between the 3 mixes by changing "language" on the dvd player settings. i
perhaps might stick wish you were here on the end and synch it with the
welcome to the machine video if its a fairly easy task. now if floyd
released something like that, i would be first in line to buy it!
