thanks for the update. the same thought did cross my mind, but i've never
heard about different types of hdmi cable (apart from dvi - hdmi and the
convertors), and you would have thought if it was the cable they would just
say so, pointing out its a cheap bundled cable to get the machine working.
regardless of what the problem is, they could at least provide a firmware
fix to correct it, even if its something as simple as keeping you saved
options when you turn the player on and off, so you just need to set it
once.
btw i found a rare problem occuring again yesterday, a compliant disc that i
authored was undersized so i stuck some more media files on the disc just so
i had some kind backup off the pc. putting this in the dvd player, the 950
should recognise the compliant dvd status and ignore the other files (just
as if it was dvdrom content) and play, but if it comes across non compliant
files it doesnt like (although the files should be complaint) it just gets
stuck at the load/boot screen and won't play. taking the very same disc and
sticking it in my liteon dvd writer (that doesnt play dixv, raw mpeg, or
anything other than a complaint dvd/vcd/cd, maybe mp3 disc) that's plugged
in via component, and the disc plays fine. this problem shouldn't affect
most people i suppose, but it appears to be a flaw regardless
i cant remember if i posted an update or not, but when playing mpg or avi
files you can't use ez zoom, and i've found prettymuch anything widescreen
doesn't appear in the correct aspect ratio, squashed too much as its non
anamorphic. connected via hdmi my pio plasma won't let me use the cinema
zoom mode. the way around this is to connect the 950 to the plasma via
scart, and swap to using scart which allows the tv to use cinema mode to
stretch the picture correctly. this is also the solution to playing dvd
audio and turning the tv off, if i changed channels on the tv when playing
dvda or sacd connected by hdmi it would restart playing the disc at the
beginning, so i couldnt just play music without having the tv on, or play a
games console whilst listening to music. again, not ideal. would be nice to
get these things fixed also. and to know the time remaining on a disc would
also be nice too
