A projector could help in a bad eyesight situation, the subtitles would
be huge.
On a subtitles note I find I have to concentrate more than usual when
watching/reading some subbed films because they speak so fast, the French
mostly (Amelie for example, especially with the directors commentary)
whilst I find Japanese films have less subs to follow, but I don't know
wether this is a translation thing.
