Tivo does exactly the same but I've always wondered why it needs to
dump the buffer. It could retain the last 30 minutes regardless of
whether you had switched channels or not - so if you rewound, you'd
see the times you changed channels back. No extra buffer required,
just perhaps cleverer management of it for when you press record to
record the current programme and all that you have already buffered of
it.
