My father in law died of liver cancer - he didn't get the chance of a
transplant (he wasn't famous !)
As soon as he knew he was ill he stopped drinking / smoking, and the
*only* time he took another drink was when he was in a hospice a couple
of days before he died. At that stage of the game it becomes irrelevant
what you do as you're on borrowed time. The nurses know that, you know
that, but he was still hesitant.
