Thanks for the replies everyone. Prompted by one of the replies I've done a
quick search for ASDA returns policy and it seems they are happy to take
back stuff withing 28 days for whatever reason, so I'll hopefully be able to
return it. In future I'll be more careful and inspect the packaging, but you
don't expect to find NTSC standard titles in an UK store.

Most 80s and probably 90s music videos were shot on film at 24 frames per
sec. I remember visting the cinema in '87 and in place of the usual adverts
was a short magazine-type programme with a couple of pop videos - one of
which was New Order's "True Faith" which was in delightfully sharp film
quality.

I believe for PAL video the film is simply speeded up to 25 frames per sec,
which is nice because each video frame is effectively a still-frame copy of
the film frame; and NTSC uses 3:2 pulldown.
