Did we establish if he has a DTS system? Someone said that DVD players
with built in amps don't have DTS decoders and that he shouldn't be getting
any sound if he is selecting DTS from the DVD menu.
Did he ever recheck his player settings to see if it wasn't set to
something other than surround?
