Query: Copying VHS to DVD

Posted by Paul on 06/25/14 11:32

I have a Panasonic DMR E65 DVD recorder. I am currently in the process of
copying a lot of old VHS stuff onto DVD-RAM. (I am using DVD-RAM so I can
easily edit the footage via the DVD recorder menus - DVD-R doesn't afford
this facility).

That aside, some of the original VHS stuff is of quite poor quality. I am
copying using a scart to phono lead - out from the scart on the video, and
into the phono inputs on the DVD recorder (ie white/red audio, yellow
video).

When playing back the recorded footage, the image is often 'blocky', and it
pauses for a second and then picks up again. Basically it's unwatchable.

The query is, are there ways around this? Will a top-of-the-range cable do
the trick?
Should I use scart to l/r audio and a SVHS connector?

Or are there any other suggestions?

Many Thanks
Paul, Wakefield
