What quality setting are you using for the recording? If it's too low, that
involves a lot of compression, which may be asking too much of the Panny's
circuitry. I haven't done any copying recently but didn't suffer the same
symptoms as you're having, when I last did some, at "standard" setting.
The problem I had (which might be relevant) was that the worn sections of
tape kept tricking the recorder into thinking that I was attempting to copy
Macrovision-protected originals. I got a so-called "video stabiliser" which
put a stop to that. I don't know whether these stabilisers are still
available in the shops - Maplin removed them from the shelves some time ago
"for legal reasons", they said....
If you can't find one locally, http://www.sonel.com/ might help - although I
hasten to add that I haven't bought from that particular supplier, and I
can't vouch for it!
