Have discovered something interesting, although it doesn't really solve the
problem. The DVD was playing as I was writing to this newsgroup, and I saw
the black text in the newsgroup listing go funny colours. I opened up
IrfanView (over the top of the PowerDVD window) which has a black
background, and the DVD was playing fine in that. However it's awkward with
menus as I have to keep switching back to the blank PowerDVD screen whilst
remembering the positions of the menu items. My monitor is an Acer 19" TFT,
simply swiched over from the original Dell monitor. As an aside, the screen
flashes blank for a few seconds whenever I click on a WMP video file.
