Quick answer - no.

Longer answer - the DVD player outputs standard PAL video, which means
that no matter what the resolution of the video you're playing, you'll
be outputting 560-line PAL video.

Technical Answer - perhaps. If the DVD player had the ability to play
QuickTime Video, *and* it had the ability to output higher resolutions
than PAL, *and* it had a DVI/HDMI port for connection to a HD-enabled
TV, then yes; but it would no longer be a "normal dvd player". This is
moot anyway, as there are no DVD players that meet all these criteria.
Not to mention the CPU required to decode HD QuickTime video would be
vastly more powerful than the simple codecs built-in to DVD players to
cope with MPEG2.
