Well worth a view loved it, makes a change to see one of the few filmakers
left who creates rather than reproduces. Neaded doing the original was good
fun and enjoyed it a lot but nothing like the book at all. Remakes are
fine if there is a reason to do it. I also liked War Of The Worlds however I
still think there is another film in there to be made as it would look good
if it could be set ( as it was written) in Victorian England. Think of the
scope for the shock they had never even seen a plane let alone comprehend
UFO's Nothing wrong at all with taking an idea and altering it IMHO infact I
love it and believe nothing is sacred in Art. In fact cannot see the point
of a remake unless it is changed you only have to see the pointless remake
of Phsyco to see that. However you could argue that War of the Worlds has
never really been made at all ( In Movie Form) even the one made in the
fifties was set in the 50's not as intended by the writer in Victorian
England. Wonka also needed doing as it was never a true representation of
the vision of the author. In fact he hated it that fact is well documented
even down to the starring role he wanted Spike Milligan the wacky British Ex
Goon Member to play the lead. Not Wilder ( however I thing he did well in
the role)
