Nige.
All I can say is stick at it. The early days can be frustrating, painful,
and often boring. But if you practice regularly (and I would say try and
pick it up every day....the guitar that is!), you will soon notice great
improvements. Learn just a few chords initially, from a basic tutor book.
Just practice changing between them over and over again, making sure every
note in the chord rings cleanly, and that you can move smoothly and quickly
between them. When you get past the initial frustrations, it is the single
most liberating and wonderful thing you can do (yes - even better than
that!). I simply cannot imagine my life without a guitar.
