Yes of course I want to get the Criterion edition -- mainly because the
extra features are in English or at least are subtitled. The picture
comparisons on the Beaver site shows that the Criterion has a slightly
softer, less contrasty picture, but there will be many who'll prefer
the sharper contrasts and deeper blacks of the Mk2 edition.
But there are many people out there who would prefer to get this great
movie at cut-rate price and get a totally acceptable version for only
$14 including postage. Great deal for them. I'm being indulgent,
spending $50 on a replacement version, but Truffaut is one of my five
favourite directors and this movie is deeply loved by both myself and
my wife.
