Because you haven't filled the disc up, and once you have, you then
select the option to finalise the disc which then stops you recording
on it.
However, if you 'delete' anything you've recorded, prior to "make edits
compatible" (or whatever your machine refers to to accept edits like
chapters) then finalising it, you no longer have access to that piece
and you can't reclaim the space like you can with a RW disc.
Since my Phiips DVDR615 proved it was unreliable at doing much in the
way of editing, I just do the recording on that onto +RW discs and then
use MPEG Video Wizard and Ulead DVD Workshop 2 to convert files on the
disc to mpeg2 files on the PC and make menus with it to get discs just
the way I want.
