Can you specilaists help me out.
I'm in the UK. and am thinking of getting some more storage. I
see 250 Gb hard disk drives for about 85 to 90.
Would it be more cost-effective to buy myself a new DVD burner and
some blank DVDs. Then I could free up some old 80 GB and 160 GB
hard drives of mine and use those in my PC?
The two hard drives are full of movie clips and jpegs.
-------
Can you specialists check my reasining below as I don't really
know DVD.
I see NEC ND-3550A burners going for about 30.
And I see blank 8X DVDs at 25 for about 10. Those 25 DVDs would
probably give me about 100 GB. So 250 Gb would cost no more than
30 in DVD media.
So the total cost of the DVD option for 250 GB would be 30 + 30
= 60.
(1) Are these figures about right?
(2) How much time in real life does it take to burn 250 GB at 8X?
(3) Would my data be more vulnerable to perishing with time (say
15 years) on DVDs than on hard drives?
(4) Would I need to make TWO copies on DVD so I have a backup. (I
only have one HDD copy of the data.)
thank you.
