Absolutely - it truly is a colossal waste of space ;-)
I like the proposed US release a little better, and if it has the same
extras, I'll consider buying that one instead:

It looks suspiciously like the "display case" that some shops currently
have on their shelves - obviously they agree that the full-sized one is
just too bloody big. I got my hopes up unnecessarily when I first saw
it in Borders :-(
