Which part were you at? West/South? Is it built up more now -like a mini-Med
or something?
When I was there, we rented a car and drove around. A _lot_ of the island
was very run down. It was full of places with an outhouse-sized 1-room
corrugated-roof sheds housing large families (or something). In one way, I
guess the tourist trade is good for these locals, but it seems to me that
the gap between the haves and the have-nots was scandalously huge.
The massive hotels, catering for all the tourist needs, getting all their
money & taking it 'abroad' does worse than nothing for those people though.
I'd like to think some improvements have been made. ...Did you go see around
the place?
