I wouldn't think so - my son runs Final Cut Pro on his Mac mini,
capturing to the same disk and it works fine.
As Martin pointed out, keep it fairly simple and yo ushouldn't have any
problems. I use an external Firewire drive on my Powerbook only because
I need to work between computers (not always networked), and it makes it
much easier just to carry a portable HD with me.
