Yes I am familiar with all the products under discussion. And I am not
slamming the HDV in the least. I own one. I find it completely
frustrating to light for while trying to get the same results as the
larger format cameras. Mostly concerning contrast. And yes, depth of
field is a huge issue when soft backgrounds are desired. Which is most
of the time with interviews. There is more to camera picture then
resolution alone. If I need to interview one of the "Desperate
Housewives" , I would not get the image expected by the powers at be.
Especially four to five times the quality.

As far as the XDCAM is concerned, a perfect reality show camera it
is. It's use for what it was designed for is far beyond what an HDV
camera can provide.

Different tools for different applications.
