Let me get this straight - you are honestly asking if a $800 desktop DV
editing suite is as good as a $40,000 dedicated piece of hardware?
Um, no.
But you should ask yourself, do you really need it to be? Is it necessary
or just pride? (I'm wondering about getting a "perfect looking film" from
DV in the first place.) Try this, take a 30-40 sec. clip and run it through
some of the color correctors in Premiere. See if that's enough for what you
are trying to do. Also, After Effects has some wonderful plug-ins for color
correcting. Some are quite good (again, none quite on par with a $40,000
piece of dedicated hardware, but they might be able to get you what you
want).
Then again, if you need to fool someone into thinking you've got $500,000 in
equipment in the back room, then take it somewhere.
