Actually, I think I did reverse the cable on the computer side.
I plugged the firewire cable into the computer, then the camera. XP did not
come up with "found new device" connection bubble. The Camera side
connection cannot be rotated or changed, so I took the computer side
firewire out, turn it over and reinserted. That may have reverse the
polarity as you mention.
I think a tech guy (couple of years ago) told me it was best to do this with
camera and computer off. Then power up computer, then camera. (Too bad I
didn't remember that yesterday..)
