I would not attempt to dissassemble a modern consumer
camcorder without the service manual. They are so tightly
packed and ingeniously designed that you really need the
"inside" information (pun intended) just to remove the
outer shell and replace it successfully.
The service manuals are available from Sony, generally
for less money than you would pay to take it to a service
agent. I've never discovered a reliable alternate source.
You can acquire the proper tools, etc to handle the small
metric hardware (don't attempt to use a cheap hardware-
store screwdriver on those tiny Pozidrive screws (they
may look like Phillips, but in those small sizes, you can't
afford to strip them out!)
And then Sony loves to use custom parts and I'd bet you
a nice dinner out that the headphone jack is not a generic
part that you can get from DigiKey or Mouser, etc.
I have taken apart and worked on both larger industrial/
broadcast camcorders and small consumer models, and
the smaller they are the more difficult to work on.
