Roger,

I agree with you that the AIW versions that preceeded the
7500/8500/9500 were not great. The reasons were primarily related to
driver and ancillary program problems. Fortunately, ATI heard the
drumbeat and fixed them.

However, to the bigger point I made:
>> Buy one that is highly rated that can do the capturing. There is and will be alot of demand on converting video tapes to DVD.

As you said, capturing a digital vdeo stream using IEE-394 Firewire is
the easiest to do. No question there. He can do that with out any
interaction with the video card. (It's all software.) But when (not
if) he needs to capture analog video, he's gonna need
RCA/composite/S-Video inputs. AIW cards can do that.

He's got to have a high quality video card for his base work. Why not
add a few dollars and have the option of capturing analog video?

These are just my thoughts having built 3 systems over 8 years in
attempts have a video editing suite.

BTW: I worked for IBM as a Multimedia Specialist in the early 1990's.
We had clients in Hollywood doing video editing on IBM PC's running at
< 100MHZ! In Hollywood... for movies... production. AND the software
ran on a true multitasking Operating System: OS/2.

<100mHz! OS/2!
LOL.
