Yes, if your camera doesn't have the necessary connections then you'll
need addtional hardware to accomplish the D/A conversions. And the
low-end consumer cameras usually do not have the necessary connections
or if it does they're not bi-directional. But many of the better MiniDV
cameras do have all that is needed and sometimes that includes some of
the cheaper ones too. Even some Digital8 cameras have all the connections.
The angle I'm coming from is I bought a $300 "All In Wonder" to do all
this stuff and was so dissappointed in it that I had to figure out other
ways. My camera turned out to be far superior to the AIW and I've not
looked back.
