To the best of my knowledge, Peter, the information which Mike gave to
you is accurate. I might add that the "4 SD cards sandwiched together
to get the necessary storage capacity" are actually configured,
electronically, in a RAID 0 array for improved performance. Also, the
P2 (Professional Plug-in) cards are physically in a PCMCIA form
factor, so they can be inserted into an ordinary PCMCIA slot such as
that commonly found on notebook computers.
By the way, as a alternative to -- or as an adjunct to, depending upon
your point of view -- Focus Enhancements has just recently announced
their new FireStore FS-100 DTE (Direct To Edit) hard disk drive
accessory for use with the Panasonic AG-HVX200 camcorder. It records
DV/DVCPRO, DVCPRO 50 and DVCPRO HD video streams via IEEE 1394. In the
DVCPRO 50 and DVCPRO HD modes, clips are recorded to disk in the MXF
P2 format. The FireStore FS-100 is expected to be available in March
2006 at a projected U.S. MSRP of $2,195. The following link will take
you to a press release announcing this new product.
