A 12v hand held spotlight can be adapted to do a decent job.
Take out the glass shield and either sandblast/beadblast the interior
for diffusion or hand sand it with coarse emory cloth until it's got
that frosted white surface.
You can then run it off any 12v lead acid battery or even run a long
lead from the lighter in your dashbord.
Most of these types of lights also have a 1/4-20 thread mount in the
handle that'll make it easy to mount it on a light stand or tripod.

If you've got the time those yellow utility work lights you get at any
home builder supply shop can be retro fitted as well.
I've replaced the AC plug with a 12v plug for car use and then
replaced the tube with a 12v lamp.( You can rough up the inside of the
protective glass on these as well to add diffusion.)
If you have a decent inverter or small generator you can just use them
as they come, 120v and you'll get loads of light what with the average
tube in these running around 250 watt-500 watts.( Be sure to remove
the black wire guard attached to the front to avoid shadows.)
