So presumably you can't use the Canopus box because W98
doesn't do Firewire.

Unlikely. Hollywood doesn't want to make it that easy
to make perfect digital copies of their movies.

If W98 won't recognize the Firewire from the Canopus
box, it won't recognize the Firewire from a DVD player
either.
