Frank,

The 12 bit option does indeed disappear when the camera is switched from DV
to HDV, and a quick check of the owner's manual confirms your opinion. The
stereo channels are sampled at a 48 KHz rate so the stereo pair will
generate 96Kbytes/sec apiece, or 192 Kbytes/sec combined output from the ADC
before compression. Since the lossy compressor is achieving a 4 to 1
reduction, the compressed output is produced at 48Kbytes per second, which
is 384 kbits/sec, which Sony refers to as their "transfer rate".

Your description is indeed more accurate and more complete than mine, Frank.
Thank you.
