need basic setup for dvd production on pc

Hi all,

I'm new to video production and need some advice from the experts. I am
looking to make some instructional dvd's. Basically the "stage setting"
is in doors sitting against a well lighted backdrop.. nothing fancy..
lighting won't be an issue because I've done stills in the same setting
and they came out great with a 1megapixel digital camera. No fancy
zooming necessary. I'm not filming a movie or anything. I have a 1ghz
pc and I'm looking for a minimal setup which includes:

1. miniDV camcorder (GL1, XL1, VX1000 or something cheaper?) with a
tripod.

2. the firewire card

3. NLE Software - ?

4. dvd burner

I don't have any old analog tapes that i need to deal with or any
situation like that. As far as the final result, I probably won't make
VHS tapes (DVD only) but it would be nice to have the option up front.
I've read about problems getting decent VHS quality... but I don't want
to open that can of worms in this topic. Any basic suggestions like
"you won't have any problems" would be nice though lol...

I don't need super high quality... but the better it is... the more
pleasant it will be for the viewer, so if spending $1500-$1800 on a
used camera will be significantly better than a used $700 camera, I'm
willing to do that.

Some have recommended renting equipment in the past... but I'd rather
do it myself that way I'm not pressured to create perfect content on
the "action" call... Plus, I can buy used gear and resell it when I'm
done.

Is the list above all I'll need (beside the dvd software to create
menus)? If so, can anyone recommend a camcorder and dvd burner for this
situation? It would be nice to be able to burn 10 or 15 DVD's in a
short period of time (say a couple of hours... i don't know).

As far as NLE Software I just want basic editing with some non-cheesy
segways. Maybe some inserted graphics. It would be nice to have some
control over the audio (export import) if that's possible considering
time code synch considerations... I use pro audio software.

Thanks ahead of time!

Bonzi
