I have not read Ultimatte's site lately, but they used to recommend against
the amber rim-light trick when using their process. It contaminates the
color of the "spill" in such a way that their spill suppressor can not
operate
correctly. Most modern green/blue - screen software now includes some
manner of spill suppression, so that may now apply to everything.
The amber kicker trick was aimed at the crude color keyers that were
built into switchers a couple decades ago. All they could do was remove
the background color. There was no spill suppression in those units, so
the only way to kill the spill was to light the edges of the subject with
the
opposite color (amber for blue-screen, magenta for green). If carefully
applied, this did help, It was hard to get it just right, and it looked
really
wrong if you didn't get it right.
