A friend of mine, who put together a system similar to the one I put
together (RT2500, but no G450 Dual Head AGP, and he used Windows XP did the
same thing. Got rid of the RT2500, and was glad he did. I on the other hand,
was busy doing other stuff, with an eye to making the RT2500 work. But now
that I finally have gotten around to it, I can see why he did that.

If I were to decide to do that, what card would YOU recommend?

JCA:
At the time, it seemed like the best way to go. Strange how fast things
change.

JCA:
Let me ask you this... I have the Matrox G450 Dual Head AGP card with two
monitors, and in order to get the desk top spread across two monitors, I
have to use a different resolution than the Matrox RT2500 book calls for.
When I use their resolution, I can only get one monitor to show it. Would
that difference make any difference?

JCA:
Let me tell you this: What I plan on doing with this DTV system is recording
pieces that are in length, the visual equivalent of a song.
As you may or may not have visited the website (the URL is in the sig at the
bottom of this post), let me say that I have invented a "vusic" instrument
called "TheCrystalume", which makes music that you see. It is not a light
organ, is not activated by sound, but is rather an infinite instrument that
is "played" by a "vusician" to produce "vusic" (visual music).
Anything that a musician can do to your mind through your ears with sound,
TheCrystalume can do to your mind through your eyes with light.
What I want to do is record it. The selections will be from 3 - 6 minutes
long, and there will be a number of them on a DVD, just like music is on a
CD. So I am NOT looking at rendering a 2 hour long movie. So in your
considered opinion, would I be greatly affected by a slower rendering
process?
RC:

JCA:
Actually, it is probably better to see what I want to capture on the TV. It
is bigger, and really makes no difference where I see the piece. AND the
thing is, that there will be little use of batch captures, as a vusic piece
is like a piece of music. The performance runs from beginning to end, with
no assembling of pieces, such as in a movie.
RC:

JCA:
Yes.
RC:

JCA:
And I CAN do that the way it is now.
Alright then... I'm going to kind of stop worrying about seeing an image in
the MovieCaptureWindow. I mean, if I eventually find a way to fix that
little problem, I'll do it, but as for now, I'm going to just blow past it
to the next problem which is not being able to hear the audio. And as I
said, I think that THAT is because I thought I should be hearing it on the
TV, and so I didn't turn on the SoundSystem.
Well, Richard... I certainly thank you for taking the time, and making the
effort to respond to my plea for help. I'm looking forward to seeing what
you would recommend as a Generic (OHCI compatible) Firewire Card would be.
And BTW, take a look at the "If Silence is Black" website. The URL is in the
sig at the end of this post.
Hope this finds YOU doing well.
