So will a consumer mixer (like the MX-4) allow me to do direct cuts
between sources? If the internal frame synchronizer acts just like a
TBC in this fashion, then perhaps I can find an asynchronous switcher
that has more of an industrial feel, and has more than 4 inputs...

So can you recommend any other "industrial" asynchronous switchers with
more than 4 inputs? I checked out the Pyxis, it looks decent.

I was interested in a Genlock switcher solely because I thought
genlocking the signal was the only way to do a clean cut from 1 source
to another, but now I guess it is possible with these new cheaper
"mixers".
