Don't do it wireless. The cost for a quality W/L system is a LOT more
than a comparable wired system :

You can piece together a basic 4-unit Clear-com system for under $1k by
buying used on eBay. I've done this numerous times, and I've never gotten a
bad used belt pack. You can build a single-channel power supply easily from
a $100 off-the-shelf electronics store unit (18 - 30vdc) and some XLR
connectors. Non-working headsets are usually a matter of broken wires in
one of the connectors, or a bad microphone, both of which are easy fixes.
To do it piecemeal like I'm suggesting, you _do_ need to either be handy
with a soldering iron, or have access to someone who can do this for you.

A wireless system, by contrast, will run you about $3k or more for a 4-unit
system. Anything costing less is probably cutting corners somewhere you
don't want - - like being a low-powered system that's prone to dropouts, or
NOT being a full duplex system, or operating in bands that do give
interference. This is an area where you DO get what you pay for, and a
low price is usually an indication of an inferior product.

Brands to look for : Clear-Com, Telex, RTS, HME.
Brands to avoid : Radio Shack, Maxon, and ANYTHING in the 49mhz range.
You will be disappointed with anything they sell, and find yourself buying a
new one and junking it in a few months.

You also want to avoid anything with a voice-activated circuit. That's
usually a gimmick found in low-quality systems.

More later if you have questions . . .
