if Sony has anything to do with it, the answer is YES they will somehow
manage to make it a proprietary format/issue so that only Sony will benefit,
much like the Apple products and other Sony (only) products - - and of
course leads to a company's decline, when pro's and consumers move away from
"ME ONLY" to freebie (like Linux) stuff where there are NO limitations, only
the imagination limit of one's own mind.

IBM was smart, when the "compatibles" came in, IBM thought it out and
decided NOT to sue, but opted to work on components to sell to the
compatibles through their purchase of loads of mini developers (now IBM
companies) and support the public domain, and thus, continued to grow in
what would otherwise have been a declining market for them. the result,
they not only survived, but are still the biggie in the market.

proprietary means just what is says, the only one in the market and thus a
limitation.

apple lost here too, they focused on proprietaryism (new word) and soon
found that only elementary schools would keep their puters with the high
schools focusing on PC's because that's what big business used (IBM's and
IBM's compatible issue) and soon they began to loose that market too
(elementary schools). but, when Bill Gates offered to do the "BALE OUT"
presentation of Apple's sad state of proprietary finances, he made the
presentation on an IBM Thinkpad using M$ PowerPoint and Apple almost
listened.
