Your audio guru may have not been completely forthcoming
on the exact scope of that little "if". The problem comes
when the noise is in the same frequency range as the signal
of interest. No filtering can affect one without an equal
effect on the other.
I'd re-record the track. With a different narrator if
necessary. In the long run it is simpler than trying
to remove broadband noise. Unless the customer
can be convinced to live with the artifacts.
