Do it with a standalone DVD recorder. They can be bought new for
less than $100 now. You can do basic editing, with thumbnail titles
and chapter markers, either automatic or manual.
Spend $300-$400, and you can get one wih a built-in hard drive and a
lot more editing capability.
Then replace your VHS machine with the DVD recorder, as they almost
all have a tuner, and can do everything the VHS did.
