I don't know what's wrong on the tape, you didn't shoot at LP speed,
did you? But you can set up the capture for FCP to capture "wild"
on-the-fly, in one uninterrupted take. You just have to bethere at the
start and end to control the tape playback. I would try to avoid the
time code issue altogether and just grab it this way, then you can line
them up on the timelines from a common event like a noise on the audio
waveform, a camera flash, hand clap, etc.
