The DSR-200 Sony DVCAM camcorder was notorious for being a lemon. There
were a lot of problems with the tape transport. Tapes would jam all the
time. I cannot even use mine except to run firewire out of the
camcorder and into another recording device - cannot run tape through
it. I bought this camcorder "used" from another party who probably found
out the hard way it was a lemon then passed it onto me knowing full well
I was being clipped for $2000. This wasn't the only one - I know of at
least a dozen of this model that had the same problem. My
recommendation is to avoid the DSR 200 unless you don't mind running
Firewire out of it to another deck, laptop, DV capturing device, etc.
The DSR-250 was a great improvement over the 200. Better lens, better
low light capability, dependable tape transport (never have had a
problem), more menu features.
