If you are in the USA there are some fairly cheap DVD recorders
available.
Just hook up your VHS player to the recorder, drop in a blank disk and
record.
This does not let you do a lot of editing contant, add fancy
transitions etc that capturing to a PC would allow but it is a
straightforward way of transfering tapes to DVD.
